Description:
This is a beautiful Rajasthani miniature painting, created around 50 years ago in Jaipur. It depicts a cosmic darbar—a divine court where gods and goddesses gather together in harmony.
Miniature paintings have a long history in India. They grew under the Mughal, Rajput, Pahari, and Deccan courts, from the 16th to 19th centuries. Artists used natural pigments and brushes made from squirrel hair to paint on paper, palm leaves, or ivory. Miniature paintings are usually small, but they hold big stories about gods, kings, daily life, and devotion. This painting is created in watercolor medium using real gold leaf on paper, and it follows the miniature painting tradition known for its tiny details, fine lines, and delicate features.
At the center of the darbar, Lord Shiva is seated with Parvati, holding their eldest son Ganesha on his lap. Surrounding them are Vishnu, Saraswati, Garuda Hanuman, Narada, Indra, Karthik and Brahma, along with their respective vahanas (Vehicles); Swan (Annapakshi), rat, lioness, nandi (the sacred bull), peacock,, and a six-headed white elephant. The artist has imagined all of them together in one divine space, filled with grace and harmony. The gold detailing adds a divine glow, a technique often used to show the spiritual energy of gods. Every figure is carefully painted, showing movement, emotion, and devotion. This is more than just a painting. It’s a sacred scene, captured within a small frame. A true tribute to the artist’s skill.
