Description:

Here is an Archival print from 1950s of self portrait of Tiziano Vecelli. His name in English is Titian.

About the Artist Titian :

The exact time or date of Titian birth is uncertain. Most modern scholars believe a date between 1488 and 1490.  Titian was born in Pieve di Cadore, a small town in the Dolomite Mountains of northern Italy. He was considered one of the most important painters of the Venetian school. He lived in the same time period of the other great artists such as Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci.  Titian’s work was highly influential in the development of the High Renaissance style.

Titian’s work:

Titian was particularly admired for his skill with colour and fine brushwork. He painted a wide range of subjects, from landscapes, portraits, to spiritual or mythological scenes. He was particularly skilled at painting human figures, and his portraits are known for their expressive and lifelike qualities. In his lifetime, he was second only to Michelangelo in fame and success, and was the first painter to paint primarily for an overseas clientèle.

At the age of ten or twelve, Titian arrived in Venice to start his training. He studied under Gentile and then Giovanni Bellini, leading artists in the city. After this early training, Titian joined one of his contemporaries, Giorgio da Castelfranco, known as Giorgione, as an assistant.

Some early works include the fresco of Hercules, situated in on the Morosini Palace, Gypsy Madona, and the 'Visitation of Mary and Elizabeth'. The Man with a Quilted Sleeve is said to be another work from this period which is particularly well-executed, especially in the texture of the sleeve. The composition was later done better by Rembrandt in his self portraits. Without a doubt, Titian belongs among the top-tier renaissance artists  like Leonardo da Vinci, Michelangelo, Donatello, Shakespeare and many and his name has become synonymous with the best of the Renaissance Art.

Titian's groundbreaking use of bold, brilliant colors, his striking and powerful composition, and his loose, revolutionary brushwork inspired many generations of artists, including Johannes Vermeer, Caravaggio, Peter Paul Rubens and Rembrandt.

Titian had many prestigious clients, including members of the royal courts of Europe. Some of his most famous royal clients includes the Roman Emperor Charles V, King Philip II of Spain, King Henry VIII of England, King Francis I of France, Doge Andrea Gritti, the leader of the Republic of Venice. Some of Titian’s  most famous and popular works include "The Assumption of the Virgin", "The Bacchus and Ariadne", "The Venus of Urbino", "The Death of Actaeon" and so on. These are just few examples of his highly regarded works of art.

What Is a Archival Print :

When it comes to fine art printing, several technical factors differentiate each technique and medium. Museum-quality prints use refined pigment particles to create captivating, finished artwork. It is also known as archival or Giclee prints, museum-quality images are subjects that undergo a sophisticated printing method using an inkjet printer. These illustrations use color-matching techniques and utilize high-quality archival ink and materials that a gallery or museum would approve. It’s worth noting that owning museum-quality prints is relatively close to owning original artwork.
