This beautiful wooden sculpture has multiple names in the west like “Enthroned virgin and Child” or "Seat of Wisdom" or "Throne of Wisdom” or “Madonna and Child”.

It’s old, rustic and earthy with a distressed look. She looks pretty old guessing from the cracks, her missing baby from her left hand side lap, from the distressed look of her throne and the faded color of her dress. The owner says, that it’s 100+ years old but we believe tht she was on that throne for quite a lot more longer than that. She is from Goa.

History says this iconography was very popular in Roman Catholic tradition This was called “ Enthroned virgin and Child” or "Seat of Wisdom" or "Throne of Wisdom” or “Madonna and Child” Madona represents Mary and Madona meaning “My Lady”. The Roman Catholic Church honors Mary, Seat of Wisdom, with a feast day on June 8.
