Description:

  This is a unique offset print of the Holy Horse, originally painted by artist M. H. Chughtai in the early 1900s. The horse in this painting, Zuljanah, holds a special place in Islamic history, especially in Shia traditions.

Imam Husain’s Holy Horse;

       Zuljanah was the beloved horse of Imam Husain ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad. Imam Husain is remembered for his bravery and sacrifice in the Battle of Karbala (680 CE). Throughout his journey, Zuljanah stayed by his side with unwavering loyalty.

 On the battlefield of Karbala, Zuljanah helped Imam Husain to fight courageously. When Husain was struck down, Zuljanah did not abandon him. Instead, it is said that the horse, covered in Husain’s blood, returned to the camp, mourning and alerting the family of the tragedy. Unlike other warhorses, Zuljanah did not flee but is believed to have died in Karbala, refusing to leave his master.

This painting shows Zuljanah pierced with arrows, representing his role in the battle. Imam Husain is honored as a symbol of resistance against injustice and is mourned every year during Muharram, especially on Ashura. Similarly, Dhuljanah is remembered with great respect. In many places, a white horse is brought out in Muharram processions, symbolizing his loyalty and sacrifice.

‎1. الله (Allah) – The name of God, appearing at the top left with radiant light.

‎2. محمد (Muhammad) – The name of the Prophet of Islam.

‎3. علي (Ali) – Refers to Imam Ali, the cousin and son-in-law of Prophet Muhammad.

‎3. فاطمة (Fathima) – Refers to daughter of Prophet Muhammad and the wife of Imam Ali.

‎4. حسن (Hasan) – Refers to Imam Hasan, the 1st son of Imam Ali and Fathima.

‎5. حسين (Hussain) – Refers to Imam Hussain, the 2nd son of Imam Ali and Fathima, martyred at Karbala.
