What is Oleography?:
Oleographs, also called chromolithographs, are multi-colour art prints, stemming from the process of lithography. Pioneered in the 1830s, the process of producing oleographs came into wide commercial use in the 1860s. Depending on the number of colours present, an oleograph could take months to produce by very skilled workers.
Who is M. V. Dhurandhar?
Mahadev Vishwanath Dhurandhar, or M.V. Dhurandhar (1867-1944) was an eminent Indian painter and postcard artist during the British rule in India. Born in Kohlapur, Maharashtra, he studied at the famous J.J. School of Art in Mumbai. His popular works include documenting the city of Bombay and its people, his illustrations of women in their daily life are popular, as well as some of the painting scenes from Hindu mythology were published by the Ravi Varma Press.
