Description:     

A matched pair of antique teak corbels from Gujarat, circa 1930s, each mounted on an iron stand, has been added to the Purathanam May Collection.

The carving carries distinct symbolic motifs,  the peacock, a stylised floral element, and the lotus forms that appear repeatedly in the temples and havelis of Gujarat. The peacock sits at the crown of each bracket, the floral motif at the centre, and the lotus at the base. Together, they create a complete decorative language carved into wood.

Minor variations in size between the two pieces are natural as these were hand-carved, not machine-made. Those subtle differences are part of what makes them real.
