Description:

Here is an Archival print of the great Italian painter Filippino Lippi. This self-portrait is originally a detached fresco on a flat tile, located at Galleria degli Uffizi, Florence.

Filippino Lippi was an illegitimate child born to the great Italian painter, Fra Filippo Lippi (1406–1469) and a nun Lucrezia Butti. Filippino worked as his father’s  apprentice till his death. The fresco painting of ‘The Stories of St. Stephen & St. John the Baptist’ at the Great Chapel of the Cathedral of Prato, Italy was completed by Filippo(father) between 1452 & 1465 with the help of his son Filippino and his apprentice Sandro Botticelli.

After the 13 year long project, Filippo moved to Spoleto with his son Filippino and his apprentice Sandro Botticelli where he died after 4 years (1969) leaving his son.Filippino under Sandro Botticelli’s care. Records says Botticelli had only Filippino Lippi as his assistant. Filippino Lippi, lost his father at the age of 12. After his father’s death he continued assisting Sandro Botticelli.

Even though Filippino’s works were in religious context, he was very bold to reinvent the representation of biblical characters. Filippino died in 1504 while he was doing ‘Disposition’ for the Santissima Annunziata church, Florence. On the  Burial day, city people showed their respect by closing all the workshops of the city. This shows  that Filippino had fame and reputation among his people.

What Is a Archival Print?

Museum-quality prints use refined pigment particles to create captivating, finished artwork. It is also known as archival or Giclee prints, museum-quality images are subjects that undergo a sophisticated printing method using an inkjet printer. These illustrations use color-matching techniques and utilize high-quality archival ink and materials that a gallery or museum would approve. It’s worth noting that owning museum-quality prints is relatively close to owning original artwork.
