Here we present an authentic antique watercolor painting of “Shiva Parvati Ganesh” by the South Indian artist Ma. Baskar from the 1900s. Ma. Baskar was a renowned calendar artist from Tamil Nadu, he was celebrated for his beautiful depictions of Hindu deities like Karpaga Vinayagar, Lakshmi Narayan, Murugan, Venkateshwara Padmavati, Ayyappan, Madurai Meenakshi, Gopala Krishna and many many more. His work played a key role in shaping Indian calendar art, especially after independence, capturing divine imagery that resonated deeply with the people.
Many other artists, such as C. Kondiah Raju, T.S. Subbiah, T.S. Arunachalam, S. Meenakshi Sundaram, M. Ramalingam, M. Sreenivasan, Shenbagaraman, S. Murugakani, and C.S. Anandan, also made remarkable contributions to this tradition. Together, they defined the visual culture of Tamil Nadu, leaving behind a lasting legacy that continues to inspire contemporary art.
