       The Chettinad region people called “Chettiars”were successful traders and financiers during the 19th and early 20th centuries. They accumulated considerable wealth through their ventures in banking, trade, and overseas businesses. With their affluence, they patronized art, architecture, and handicrafts, leading to the creation of exquisite and decorative household items. The Chettinad coconut scraper became one such product, showcasing the Chettiars' opulence and love for intricate craftsmanship. Skilled artisans meticulously carved the wooden bases of the coconut scraper with floral motifs and geometric patterns.

         The coconut scraper were typically crafted from reclaimed seasoned teak wood and Satin wood from Srilanka. Both these woods are known for their durability and strength. The sharp-edged metal scraper was attached to the wooden base, allowing users to easily scrape coconut flesh while admiring the beautifully carved designs.
