Description:
Presenting a lovely set of bookends made from vintage brass ‘Paatham.’ Paatham means ‘foot’ in Tamil. These kind of brass feet and hands are typically used to decorate deities, especially during Varalakshmi poojas for the Hindu goddess Lakshmi, also in some places they become substitute for the Vigraham (statues) during the festivals in Tamil Nadu.
Did you know? The idea of L- shaped bookends originated in the 19th century and was patented in 1870. This tool helps us not just to organize our books but also adds a personal touch by featuring decorative animals, birds, or characters at the ends. The earliest forms of bookends were simply heavy stones, metal, or wood busts placed on either side of books.
Today, bookends have become a part of our regular life because many of us have private libraries, so this lovely pair of paatham bookends could come in handy for storing your books while adding style.
