This blog will be a bit different from the usual Purathanam blog posts. Normally, I write about the products, their history, and how they inspire me. But today, the inspiration comes not from a product, but from a person who purchased one. Confused? Let me explain…
I always knew life was full of surprises, but this one truly moved me. Let me introduce my new and eldest friend, Dr. Urmila. Through Purathanam, I’ve gained not just customers, but beautiful friendships, and she is one of the most special. Meeting her was a true blessing, reminding me of how meaningful the friendship of an elderly person can be.
When Dr. Urmila called that evening, I didn’t expect it to turn into such a profound experience. At nearly 90 years old, she is Purathanam’s senior-most client and a remarkable personality. She wanted to buy an oleograph print of Saraswati by Ravi Varma, saying, “I want to keep this Saraswati with me for as long as I live, and then pass her on to my son.” That deeply touched me and I truly felt honoured to serve such a wonderful person.
Also at purathanam, to protect the paintings and prints, we usually remove the glass from frames and replace it with acrylic protection to prevent damage during transit. Customers typically replace the acrylic with glass on their own. But Dr. Urmila said, “Priya, where would I go, or who would I ask to replace the acrylic sheet with glass protection? It’s very difficult for me to manage all that.” I understood her concern and decided not to ship the product but to arrange a door delivery instead.
Then I thought, why send someone else? Why not me? Why miss the chance to meet her? Some decisions in life turn things around, and I’m so glad I made that impromptu choice. I was curious and eager to meet this inspiring woman, who still seeks beauty and art in life. I knew I’d have so much to learn from her and hoped to receive her blessings.
Today, I finally met her, and she truly made my day. She gave me hope, and her zest for life moved me beyond words. I want to be like her when I grow older, still finding joy in the little things and living with grace and purpose. Just as I hoped, I received her blessings, love, care, and the warmth of a beautiful friendship. Her presence reminded me of my grandmother, who used to be my friend and whom I miss dearly. I’m forever grateful to Purathanam for bringing such incredible people into my life in ways I never imagined.
